Rebecca Cross, the founder of Greenfare Law, has spent twenty years specializing in food law. Over the years, she has represented some of the most successful leaders in the food, beverage, and supplement industries— advising companies at all stages of growth, from pre-revenue startups to publicly held corporations. As outside general counsel to many of her clients, Rebecca provides strategic guidance on wide range of legal issues, including advertising, labeling, product safety, supply chain management, and intellectual property protection.
Rebecca’s approach is rooted in a deep understanding of the food industry and the real-world challenges emerging businesses face at different points along their trajectory. She spent years as a litigator, representing food companies in consumer class actions and other complex business disputes, as well as years advising private equity and venture capital firms on regulatory and litigation risk during acquisition and pre-exit diligence.
Her past representations include publicly traded companies such as Amazon, Amplify Snack Brands, B&G Foods, and the private equity fund VMG Partners. Today, most of her clients are venture-backed, mission-driven food companies.
Since its launch in 2016, Rebecca has served as both counsel and advisory board member to the Plant Based Foods Association. In that role, she engages with the FDA, state regulators and federal and state legislators on laws and policies that affect the food industry.
She is frequently cited as an expert by industry outlets like Food Navigator and the New York Times, and regularly speaks at industry conferences on legal matters affecting food companies. She also co-founded EVR Foods, maker of the plant-based yogurt brand LAVVA.
Before founding Greenfare Law, Rebecca practiced in the food and beverage group at the international law firm Davis Wright Tremaine LLP. She is based in Santa Barbara, and is licensed to practice law in California and New York.
